Port Campbell, Victoria is the closest coastal town to Peterborough. A thriving busy port of call, Port Campbell is a gem in the crown of the South West Coast. For travellers it is the welcome spot after the visit to the 12 Apostles and the other coastal attractions.
The township and the immediate surrounds has a population of over 440 people from 107 households. And like many such places it is a place full of holiday homes, there are a total of 306 private dwellings. In summertime especially, the place is alive with activity.
As befits a larger rural town that caters to the needs of the tourist, Port Campbell has lots of accommodation and dining options. Exploring the town on foot has improved with the recently built pedestrian and bike rider paths that join the town to the cliff tops and the Peterborough Road
The newly erected pedestrian bridge to the top of the cliff overlooking Port Campbell sits over Campbell's Creek. To the left of the bridge is the Caravan Park which also has cabins for rent.
The newly created pedestrian and bike path from Port Campbell to Timboon that runs from Port Campbell alongside the road to Peterborough, before joining the Curdievale Timboon to run alongside it. It takes just over an hour for the bike rider. The bike ride then joins up with the Timboon Camperdown Rail Trail which reaches to a spot just short of Elingamite when it rejoins the road. This link also takes just over an hour.
There is a cliff top walk that explores the cliff face overlooking the township below. It gives a wonderful bird's eye view of the little port.
Parks Victoria has a great Information Centre where there is information about the Port Campbell National Park especially.
